The Karate for Kids program is a Martial Arts Program specifically designed for children ages 7-12

Karate for Kids

Respect, discipline, focus and confidence--these are the qualities that can help your child excel in the classroom and at home.  Our Karate for Kids students are typically between the ages of 7 to 12.  Our students are encouraged to personally grow while maintaining a positive attitude, setting goals, and persevering through challenges.

Some of the reasons parents and students love the ATA Karate for Kids Program:
  • Karate for Kids provides comprehensive Songahm Taekwondo instruction customized to be fun, yet fulfilling for each child to consistently progress.
  • Students experience increased self-esteem through physical activity, fitness, and personal victories.
  • Each student is encouraged through achievement with our reward system which recognizes outstanding performance on and off the mat.
  • We want all of our student to excel socially and academically.  It's this type of personal victory that allows our students to strive for the next belt time and again.
  • Because Taekwondo is an individual sport, each student is an active, valuable part of each class.

For school aged students, the Karate for Kids program is great for development during a time when they are searching for identity and learning more independence.

Let us know if the Karate for Kids program is right for you!

We are the only Martial Arts School in Warren County that can provide access to ATA's World Class Tournament Circuit.  Tournaments are controlled environments that allow practitioners to display and improve their skills in a safe environment.  Tournaments allow our members to meet new people, make new friends, put nerves to the test, and practice good sportsmanship and respectful behavior.

To maintain fairness and safety, all divisions are separated by age and rank.  Sparring divisions are also divided by gender.  Special ability divisions are available as well.

All of our students start out in the ATA Novice rings (recreational level competition).  Depending on a student's interest level, and willingness to commit time to training and travel, a student may be invited to the Leadership or Legacy Program and begin competing at a Competitive Level.  Leadership and Legacy Students are eligible to compete for State, District, and World Level Champion Titles.

There is a HUGE Martial Arts community outside of Warrenton, and tournaments are a great way to get involved and see the bigger picture.

Bullying at School is a Real Problem

Bullying is a very real problem in most schools and most communities.  Martial Arts can be part of the solution.

It is well known that Confidence and Awareness are key to preventing bullying.  Well let me tell you...

There's No Confidence like Self Defense Confidence!

Knowing that you know how to protect yourself, if need be, is often all it takes for a bully to decide to pass you by and pick on someone more vulnerable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child face a risk for injury with martial arts, karate, tae kwon do?

Our program is extremely safe. We have measures upon measures in place to insure that your child will stay safe, and have a great time. From stretching to warmups to very close supervision - we've got your child covered. Injuries do happen sometimes - but they're quite rare.

Can my child still participate in martial arts, karate, tae kwon do if he/she is not athletic?

Yes! In fact, martial arts is kind of a beacon of light for kids who just don't fit into team sports. Kids who never could throw a ball well or run fast find that martial arts is accessible to them. It's something they excel at, and as a result, their confidence soars. Is martial arts, karate, tae kwon do fun for children? Absolutely! In fact, kids usually have to drag their parents to martial arts class - something parents are always shocked to see. We have our serious moments here where kids work and learn... but we have just as many moments where they goof off and have a blast!

Will martial arts, karate, tae kwon do improve my child's confidence?

Yes! Martial arts is a powerful source of confidence for kids. They practice hard and learn techniques in order to advance through the ranks. And as they advance, they fill with pride. After all, they're the ones doing all the work - so they feel all of the accomplishment whenever they learn a new move... achieve a new belt... or get praise from their fellow students and instructors.

Will martial arts, karate, tae kwon do teach my child to be hostile and aggressive?

Absolutely not. Children learn a lot about what it means to be respectful and polite here. As a result, kids who weren't violent in the first place become even more respectful and kind. Kids with behavior problems often become very respectful and calm.

The Van Horns have been wonderful with our 5yo. They are very well structured and have a great system for their beginners to succeed. If you are considering martial arts for your little one this is our first choice in the area. Even amidst the quarantine they have adapted and created videos online for the Tigers and we do Zoom sessions every week with them live. Our son is loving it even from home. They’ve gone above and beyond.

Highly recommend Excel Martial Arts | ATA Martial Arts | Warrenton, MO for their outstanding dedication to their students. Instilling knowledge, work ethic, camaraderie and discipline in their daily lives, while having a genuinely fun experience....Bravo!

I absolutely love Excel Martial Arts. Their instructors are very good and take the time to really learn each student's needs and abilities. They are very patient and work to make sure each and every individual is learning the curriculum and don't feel overwhelmed. "They have helped me feel confident, learn self discipline, respect, and improve me as a person",(from the mouth of my 10 year old).
As a parent, I also feel that my child is in good hands and they let all of us parents watch and answer any questions we may have. My personal experience has always been positive and I feel my daughter has the best opportunities to grow and EXCEL!

Excellent family oriented martial arts program. They work hard to make sure everyone is comfortable and their needs/concerns/insecurities are addressed. My family recieved support in more ways than I can comment in this review as I have two special needs children and I myself am extremely shy and uncomfortable in a group setting. We are very grateful to have met and been instructed by Amy and Mark and their wonderful children. We would definitely still be actively attending had it not been for a move out of county resulting in too long of a commute. You will not regret deciding to invest in your overall health, mindfulness, and emotional well-being by joining this martial arts program.
